It is really important to understand Architecture of SAP Process Orchestration if you need to work with the tools of it. PI has many releases and PI / PO supports deployment in various methods. The tools and component will vary when the installation type is changed. So, without this knowledge, it is really hard to understand why some version of PI is different than others.
In this lesson, you will learn about the architecture of SAP PO. After this topic, you will be able to understand which version of PI and PO are installed on ABAP and Java stack. Also, deep dive into the tools of SAP PO and how they are organized.
I will introduce you to the concept of how the interfaces are designed, configured and executed in SAP PO. I will walk you thru the tools of SAP PO which we use for development and monitoring purpose.
This section you will start seeing the SAP PI screens & tools.
From SAP Netweaver architecture session, we learned that SAP Application Server has both ABAP and Java as its back end server. So, it is important for you to understand which version supports ABAP+JAVA and which version only supports JAVA.
At the end of the blog, you can download the presentation file that is used in this demo! It is Absolutely FREE!
This blog only covers the outline of this course but if you are interested in the course then you can find the details below.
Is there any Prerequisite?
The prerequisite for this course is for you to completely understand these two topics on:
Don’t jump directly on this architecture and hope you will understand, well it is not worthy. Understanding of SAP Netweaver Application Server architecture is a must.
Without the basics, You won’t understand the context. Well we have discussed tons of basics in previous lesson go thru it in come back here.
Topics Discussed in this Course
Let me give you the flow of the topics:
- First we try to understand what is the underlying server architecture of SAP PI or AEX.
- Then we will learn about PI or AEX deployment options
- I Will give you some background about the Architecture of SAP PO and discuss overview on the tools
- Finally, we will look at the installation options available to deploy PI or PO.
Without this understanding, you won’t understand the complete picture how things works in SAP PI /PO. So, don’t skip this section.
Also, don’t guess this section is more for SAP basis folks. Nope, this course is specific for Integration Designer experts more from setup point of view.
Why do companies want to deploy on Single Stack or Dual Stack?
Well, the answer is very simple. It is SAP’s direction. SAP is moving away from ABAP stack.
All the future SAP PI version supports on Java stack and they will demising the PI version which has dual stack.
So, the future trend is that PI will be Java only installation or Single stack installation.
That is the reason companies want to keep up with the new version. The new version actually gets the latest patches which includes security patches, enhancements and bug fixes. If you are on the lower version then you will be left alone some day. Which is risky for companies.
But what is the issue with Dual Stack?
Technically, I don’t see any issues with the tools but having two different technologies like Java and ABAP talking to each other and exchanging communication is the biggest problem.
Just to process one message lots of handshakes is required between the two engines and which impact the performance of the system and interface lead time to delivery.
That is the reason, SAP has decided to move along with the Java as it is very flexible and support web standards easily compared with ABAP. As ABAP was discovered just to support SAP based applications.
So, Single stack interface performance is 10x time higher than Dual Stack interface performance.
PI/PO Installation Types?
SAP PI can be installed on Dual Stack and Single Stack but SAP PO supports on Single Stack.
The Architecture of SAP Process Orchestration?
In this podcast, you will learn and understand how the PO tools are organized and what is the purpose of each of these tools.
Single Stack Architecture of SAP Process Orchestration?
We will deep dive into this diagram to understand each of the components.
Dual Stack Architecture?
Will clarify what is the difference in the architecture between Single Stack and Dual Stack.
